Battlestar Galactica is BACK!!! That was a great episode.

Is it too late to post thoughts on the last ep of Torchwood and the first ep of Doctor Who? I mean, I wrote them, it seems pointless to have them and do nothing with them!

Last weekend I turned thirty. It was rather excellent as Dave and Sian came to stay, my original best friend Debbie and her family came down for the dinner on Saturday night, and Dad and Joan managed to stay the whole weekend by staying with Andrew's parents - which had mixed blessings, as apparently we were the main subject of discussion...

We spent Saturday afternoon] with Dave and Sian hunting ducks and gooses to feed bread to, but they all seem to have left the usual lake as it's breeding season. So we got two families of geese and a bunch of lame pigeons to feed! Oh, and two dogs. Never mind.

Then we went to dinner at an Italian Restaurant that I'd randomly selected and that turned out to be very delicious and very friendly, and although I'd seen Andrew's Mum try to sneak in a birthday cake, I'd forgotten about it by the time the lights dimmed and the music started! It was tres embarrassing and very lovely! And it was a chocolate cake and they dressed my plate really prettily! And I got someone to take a picture of it. It just happened to have me in it too. It's not bad at all bearing in mind it was on a mobile phone!

Then on Sunday we went to Rochester, which was holding its annual Sweeps Festival. Dad and Joan had never been to Rochester, the sun was shining, people were dancing, we had a nummy lunch sitting on the grass outside the cathedral, I found a supplier for chocolate fountain chocolate and bought some fudge (naturally) and then Andrew got bored so we hit the charity shops and came home laden with books, cds and a new board game! Yay!

It was the loveliest weekend ever. Oh, and Andrew got me the whole of Farscape for my birthday (Eeeeeeeeee!) and Sian had chosen a glow brick and a 'Pick Your Own Box of Choclates' set. Anyone would think she knew me or something...

And then it was back to life with a bump. Recently I have nearly walked out of my job twice as there have been a couple of shouted arguments in the office - one of which I was witness to and it really upset me. Then on Tuesday I was leaning over the first health and safety blackspot (an old defunct computer on the floor) to plug in the second blackspot - I have to work with two computers cause they won't provide me with one that runs all the programs - and as I leaned back up, I wobbled and knocked my monitor on which I'd balanced my keyboard, which slid off the monitor towards me. So I jerked back and promptly knocked the recently boiled kettle off the windowsill. Which emptied onto my leg and foot and unfortunately went into my shoe through the eyelets and scalded my foot. Oh yay. This was bad enough, but running water is only available downstairs in a couple of sinks and we were upstairs so we were trying to cool the burn down with a paper towel soaked in water from the water cooler and aloe as they keep an aloe vera plant for when the metalworkers burn themselves.

Needless to say I ended up with a handful of rather angry burns which I couldn't treat till three hours later when I got home. Andrew was not impressed. Thankfully my leg is absolutely fine and of the burns on my foot only one is itchy and that was the one that blistered. I don't know how it'll react to shoes as I've been in sandals the rest of the week due to the heat, and discovered that the office actually becomes an oven. Huh, icebox to oven in six weeks. Who'da thunk it?!

And then on Thursday evening as I was failing to leave on time again, I got a call from the agency giving me two weeks' notice. Ok, so much for an ongoing position then. It looks like they either can't afford me any more or the job is going permanent and they don't want me! There is some rather contradictory information on my favourite jobs website at the moment...

And finally, on Tuesday I got a second birthday cake too! I phoned my Brownie leader to tell her I didn't think I'd make it to Brownies and she sounded so disappointed that I said I'd come by halfway through. I got there in time to make a quick sandwich (we were making sandwiches with random fillings in them) and then the lights went out. I shouted oi! and then the kitchen door opened and a cake with possibly thirty candles came out! Cue more singing and more blushing! But they were so sweet and I now have a card signed by all my Brownies! Two of them shouted "Can I have a piece?" and I mentioned that I'd heard no pleases. Cue thirty girls all going pleeeeeeeease! To which I told them that the cake was already being cut up for them. It was so big that I still go to take nearly a third of it home! It's rather nummy with vanilla filling and chocolate icing. Hmm, a theme? Oh yes!

And with that I should post this before I think of anything else to write...

That is a lovely picture of you. :) And I didn't realize it was a momentous birthday! Of course, you look like you are about 20. :p

Glad the burns are healing well. And given how you described the office setup, I think you are lucky to be out of there in two weeks!

Heh, I'm actually old enough now to take that comment as a compliment! I've spent most of my life getting riled at the "But you look so much younger!" comment and now I've hit the point where it is a good thing to hear!

There are some things I'll miss about that job, and plenty I won't. That's the life of a temp really.

Thank you! The only bits left now are two blobs on my foot. The bad one's blisters have gone down and now it's just very itchy! The other one is just red, but that's always under my sandal strap so I'm not surprised. I think I've been very lucky.
